Camouflage
Camouflage is useful for animals because it prevents them from becoming prey and it also helps it to catch its prey. When animals camouflage the colours or patterns on their skin are the same colour as their surroundings. This makes the animal a lot harder to see. No doubt this increases the chance of survival for the animal. There are a few different types of camouflage. disruptive coloration and countershading. Disruptive coloration is when the animal like a zebra has stripes. The predator then finds it hard to find an outline. This works well for large herds because the predator can not single out one animal. Countershading is when an animal like a penguin has a black back and a white stomach. this means when a predator looks from the top they can't see the animal because the black back blends in with the dark water. When a predator looks from the bottom the white belly blends in with the water and the sun. Some animals can change their skin colour extremely quickly to blend in with their surroundings. these animals have specialised skin cells called chromatophores a lot of animals that have chromatophores use it to communicate their moods as well.
